India and Africa share a long and rich history of interaction marked by cultural, economic and political exchanges based on South-South cooperation and common developmental challenges. India has carried out a number of initiatives in the past decade to facilitate economic relations between the two regions. Total trade between India and Africa increased almost five-fold between 2005-06 and 2015-16, and stood at US$ 52 billion in March 2016-17. India’s exports to Africa increased from US$ 14 billion in 2007-08 to US$ 23 billion in 2016-17, registering an impressive compound annual growth rate of 5.6 per cent. Apart from trade, India has also undertaken significant investment initiatives in recent years to strengthen its strategic partnership with Africa. India has become one of the largest investors in Africa. The major investors include Indian Multinational Enterprises (MNE’s), Indian construction and telecommunications companies, and several auto industry majors. These investors have been participating in diverse sectors including telecommunications, energy, computer services, power, automobile, infrastructure, etc. in Africa.
South Africa is the second largest economy in Africa. South Africa is the No.1 diversified economy in Africa. (IMF 2016). According to FDI intelligence Middle East and Africa Countries of the Future 15/16 report, South Africa is number 1 in Africa attracting the highest number of inward projects. South Africa is the regional manufacturing hub and Gateway to Africa with favourable market access and is an export platform.
To take advantage of the enormous potential that exists in South Africa, TheFederation of Telangana and AndhraPradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry-#FTAPCCI is organizing a Seminar on Business Opportunities in South Africa on 21st February, 2018 at 5.00 p.m. at Federation House, Red Hills, Hyderabad. Mr Ben Joubert, Deputy High Commissioner, Mr Recado Andrews, Minister Counsellor (Economic) and Mr.Ravi Issar, Advisor (Trade & Investment) of South African High Commission have consented to participate and address the Seminar.
